Cambridge Sustainable Food partnership (CSF) is launching the Food for the Planet Festival, a week-long celebration of food that is good for us, good for the planet and good for our future.
Focused on climate action on a plate, over 30 events will take place across the city from 15th to 22nd October showcasing sustainable, local, seasonal and climate-friendly food. The Festival asks everyone to consider what goes on their plates and to explore what they can do to make a difference. Individuals can make a pledge through the Climate Charter developed by Cambridge Carbon Footprint and Cambridge City Council.
Featuring community growing events, film screenings, apple pressing, a green Pecha Kucha, cookery workshops, stalls, Disco Soup and more, plus climate-friendly specials and discounts from local food businesses, there’s something for everyone.
Locals can learn how to ferment veg at a Meadows fermentation workshop, enjoy a tasting day at Daily Bread Co-operative or chop, dance and eat to the beet with CSF at Disco Soup. Most events are in-person, though some, such as CSF's Climetti Spaghetti cook-a-long, are on Zoom. Climate menu specials will be available at several local eateries; including Thrive, Maurizio Dining & Co., Maison Clement, Fin Boys and Cambscuisine's country pubs, with many also offering discounts during the festival week.
The Healthy Soil-Healthy Food event will offer short films and discussions featuring farmers and growers from Cambridgeshire who are working to regenerate their soil and capture carbon.

Supported by Cambridge City Council, SUSTAIN and Sustainable Food Places, the festival is part of the #GoldFoodCambridge campaign to encourage everyone in Cambridge to help co-create a local food system that’s healthy, climate-friendly and fair for all. The city is aiming to become the third Gold Sustainable Food Place in the UK by 2024.
