Clubs and Groups

Cherry Hinton Local History
Our society is a friendly group of residents of Cherry Hinton and beyond sharing an interest in the history of Cherry Hinton and surrounding areas and memories of living here. We have ten meetings a year with a talk given by a guest speaker on historical subjects, often but not always, with a local context. The society also arranges excursions. Please see our current programme below for a flavour of what we do.
We meet in the Church Centre, St Andrews Church, Cherry Hinton at 7.30pm on the last Monday of most months. A talk is followed by questions, coffee, lots of chat and a raffle to help the society's funds. For more information, please visit the website.

Cherry Hinton Ol' Boys
The Ol' Boys Club meets at the Village Leisure Centre in Colville Road every Monday between 2pm and 4pm. It came into being for men aged 55 and over. We meet over a hot drink and biscuits and put the world to right.
We are now in the early days of having a little more freedom from Covid restrictions and the Ol' Boys a putting a programme of activities in place for the coming months. So, come along and see what it's all about and make new friends.

Friday Friends - Baptist Church
Around 30 senior citizens meet most Friday afternoons to share friendship over craft, jig saws, knitting, playing cards, scrabble and dominoes. There is tea and cake, a quiz of some kind and a short epilogue, with a hymn and a prayer.
The knitting table works tirelessly providing blankets and other goods for those in need. We have a speaker once a term and usually enjoy a trip out in the summer. We also enjoy roast lunches at key moments through the year. We welcome any retired person of all faiths and no faith. We seek to build a caring atmosphere where friendships are developed which often extend beyond the group and can become supportive relationships which are significant if ill health or other difficulties arise. We do all this with much fun and laughter.

Friends of Cherry Hinton Brook
Cherry Hinton Brook flows through the eastern suburbs of the City of Cambridge, UK. It rises near the nature reserves on Lime Kiln Hill and flows north-west through Coldhams Common to the River Cam. Kingfishers are commonly seen, symbolising the special nature of this pleasant green corridor. For more information, please visit their website.

Friends of St Andrew's Cherry Hinton
Purpose and Objective
As with any old building, St Andrew is in constant need of repair. This applies not just to the stonework and roof but also to the monuments, fittings, stained glass windows, centre and churchyard.
The recent restoration of St Andrew tower has highlighted the need to generate regular funds for the continual maintenance of the church fabric, without the efforts of extensive fundraising Cherry Hinton would have lost its fine chalk tower which holds the oldest bell in Cambridge.
The objective of the Friends is to maintain, repair, restore, preserve, improve, beautify and reconstruct St Andrew's Church, centre and churchyard for the benefit of the present and future community of Cherry Hinton. For more information, please visit the website.
